hi guys, am running on Solaris 2.6 and i can't ftp a server but can telnet !! any idea why ?

most likely you are trying to ftp to system as root user, whose name is contained in /etc/ftpusers, it is much better to login as usual user and then su to root (ftp as another user)

Does the server you are trying to do a ftp connection have a ftp server running on it? What message do you get, or does it just sit there and times out?

Look in the /etc/inetd.conf, you should have a similar entry:
ftp stream tcp nowait root usr/sbin/in.ftpd in.ftpd -a -o -l

If so, the posting by geist will possibly be the reason. You could go and remove the "root" entry which should solve your problem, but it will be more of a security risk. IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries
