When I want to ftp to an other system via root then this is no problem, but when I want to ftp from another user (for example oracle) then I get the error: ftp: get_auth_methods() failed 5.
I'm working with AIX 5.1 ML3.

Does somebody have any suggestions?

Thanks.

hi,

what authentication method are you using

type :- lsauthent
what does it return

I'm using the AIX standard.
The thing is that when I do lsauthent for the user root, it will display this, but when I execute this command logged in as oracle, nothing will be displayed.

Does anybody recognise this problem I'm having? Or has any suggestions?

Thanx

hi,

does this apply to any new user other than root , if not or don't know try creating a new user .
What group(s) is the user created as?

if you are currently using oracle su to oracle and type id
what does it show ?

run usrck -n username to see if it reports any problems

Also run lppchk -v to see if it reports any problems

let us know how you get on and we'll take it from there

Both commands:
usrck -n oracle
and
lppchk -v

Don't give any output back. So no errors.

It looks like this applies to any user other than root.

I found the solution to this problem:

# cd /etc/objrepos
# ls -l Cu*

All the files should have permissions rw-r--r--.
If not enter the following command:

# chmod 644 Cu*

Regards

Rich
