ftp from LAN/ethernet woes

I hope this is the right forum for this if not please accept my apologies. I have connected my laptop running XP home to my PC running ME. Both machines can fiew each others folders and share DSL/broadband connection. But I can't ftp anyone even with all firewalls disabled. On ME I get socket error 10061 on XP I get Unknown error (I'm using ftp from the command feature) Dreamweaver/cute ftp don't want to know either. Can anyone suggest what might be going on?

Assuming you're sharing an internet connection using a router...you may have to configure the router to pass ftp traffic.

Yes I am sharing an internet connection but I'm using a bridge not a router. I'll see if I can configure the bridge?

Can't seem to configure the bridge to allow ftp can anyone assist?
P.S even with firewalls disabled same problem...

It's done from the XP networking wizard. I'm told it is transparent? It bridges my AEI USB to fast ethernet adaptor (that connects to ntl set-top box/broadband) with my broadcom 44x 10/100 Integrated controller (connects winME machine with XP laptop) and allows ICS on both machines. The bridge uses the following items:
Client for Microsoft networks
NWlink IPX/SPX/netBIOS transport protocol
TCP/IP

It's OK I removed the bridge and simply shared the AEI USB to fast ethernet adaptor connection. Now dreamweaver on the XP laptop will ftp. Now to configure the dreamweaver on the ME machine. Even though the windows firewall says it's off I suspect this is not the case...odd

Yes it was the windows firewall: Advanced>>highlight particular adapter>>enable ftp server
