Trying to upgrade the firmware on VGMC from 4.5 to 5.5 via ftp from sig serv running 5.5. Operation fails because a file on the VGMC cannot be cleaned up (deleted?).

It looks to me like the sig server is logging into the VGMC to do the operation (including the ftp) and the ID it is using doesn’t have the appropriate permissions. The VGMC still has the default admin1/0000 on it (which I need/want to change for security but don’t know how or if I should), and I no idea how/where to address this on the sig server or possibly create an ID/pass with the necessary permissions on the VGMC.

Any thoughts?

You can manually upgrade the card by copying the IPL55012.sa file from the Sig Serv install disk to your PC.
Rename the file exec, no extension.
Remove the flash card from the VGMC.
Delete all files on the flash.
Copy the exec file to the flash.
Re-install the flash card and boot VGMC into service.
Card should be upgraded.

mplr24008:
When upgrading a CS1000 system from 4.5 to 5.0/5.5, remember to install the MPLR 24008 patch first. The patch ensures that the VGMC card upgrades properly.
Unable to upgrade VGMC due to following error:
SWDL: Warning "remove" for /C:/fw/X00.FW failed
SWDL: Error An error occured during /C: drive clean-up. Eliminate the error and run upgrade again.

Thank you!

I believe that is exactly the error we saw. I looked at the ISSP, and don't see any in service patches. Can the MPLR 24008 patch still be installed, put in service, and have the appropriate effect?

If you know how to install patches and are good on the VGMC command line you can put the patch on a PCMCIA, copy it to the patch directory and activate it.

The easiest thing to do if the SS is already upgraded is to manually upgrade the cards as outlined above.
