Hi all,

I have installed bash shell through IBM's downloaded RPM file using SMItty. When I edit the passwd file and put bash as the root's default profile, I cannot connect to the system's ftp service from any client. When I turn it back to the original ksh, ftp services are back up and running.

Why is that so?

TIA

Yiannos

This is connected to your other question about bash. If the shell isn't on the authorized list of shells in /etc/shells, the user can't ftp into the system. (Similarly, if a user's home directory doesn't exist, the user can't ftp into a system.)
