i have the backups ftp'd to the pub (and i see it) but how do i send it to my laptop??

i dont want to ftp it directly to my laptop, i just want to copy the file from the pub to my laptop.

This is easy:

logon to the "maintainace web page"
click on "server access", then "enable FTP"
on your laptop, open a DOS (CMD Prompt) session
change to the directory/drive you want to put the file in
FTP X.X.X.X (this is the IP of your system, or if you are using the services port 192.11.13.6)
login as anonymous / pw anonymous
type "cd pub"
type "binary"
type "mget *"
say "y" to the files you want to download to the laptop

or you could get xxxx.yyyy with a specific filename. I find it easier to mget (multiple get) and just say "y" to what you want.. less typing :)

okay that works great, but it doesnt work on an 8500. something differnt about that server.

sure it does.. you probably need to go into the "Firewall" link on the Maint Web page, and make sure FTP and FTP Data are enabled... I have created backups on S8300/S8400/S8500/S87XX with this same method...
