We have FTP backups set on our S87xx Servers on one of them I am getting an error. I confimed the all the information. Even took out the schedule and re-built.

This is an S8720, the backup starts off then errors out: "backup: Performing save translations please wait... : : Error while performing save translation - -0.00390635 - Backup terminated for xln Performing ERROR RECOVERY, please wait... Can't call method "quit" on an undefined value at /opt/ecs/sbin/backup line 3471."

Any help is appreciated!! ThanksS

Is this the active server with CM running? Can you do a save translation successfully from CM?

Is your backup from the web browser or linux CLI?

Backup is from the web brower, not sure what you mean by CM, sorry.

CM = Communication Manager

Are you connecting with the browser to the active server?
The active server is the one running CM.

I don't know why this is happening but if it were me, I would interchange then reboot the server, intechange, and try the backup again

Just so you know. With the web browser on paired s8xx servers, you only setup the backup on the active server.
Save translations can only be done from the active server.

Once setup, your backup information is synchronized to both servers.

I always configure both my S8XX0's to do a save trans prior to doing the backup. The active server will do it, but the standby will say this:

backup: 1: Server is not active - save translation has been disabled if requested
backup: 0: BACKUP SUCCESSFUL for xln backup set,

I do this as I don't want to change my backup schedule if for some reason my standby becomes the active.

On paired s8xx servers, the file sync between the two servers updates translation files from the active to the standby.

If you have CM doing a maintenance save translation, it is not recommended to use the browser to also do a save before your backups.

Code:
display system-parameters maintenance Page 1 of
    MAINTENANCE-RELATED SYSTEM PARAMETERS

bsh, can I ask what is the reason you say this?

If you have CM doing a maintenance save translation, it is not recommended to use the browser to also do a save before your backups.

TphoneD, sorry for hijacking your thread.

When there are several ways to do the same thing, it is really up to the user. Just because something like a save translation can be done in CM, and linux CLI, and with a web browser backup, would not be a reason to have all three ways to do so, active at the same time.

The flexibility to do things different ways is a good thing.

But, take into consideration what can happen if this caused conflict issues, and because of the conflicts, you could have a complete failure to save at all.

If you use one of the ways to do this and count on it working, when there is a failure, it's much easier to figure out where you point of failure is and why.
