I have some remote users trying to connect to my AIX box over ftp and telnet.

Both take about 5 minutes to actually connect for a login prompt.

At the console I can login fine.

Any ideas?

Hmm, heard of this sort of thing before.
Have you been mucking about with the IP config, via SMIT ?
It seems that some vertions of AIX get a bit upset if you do this.
Check the relavant .conf files havn't got any "extra" entries, and / or: ifconfig down detatch, rmdev -d the devices and adapter, cfgmgr and start again from scratch.
Make sure all 10/100 devices have the speed and duplex set (do not use auto config) - it seems the gigabit devices only work on auto neg, but you still have to force the switch port - make sure the network guys have forced the switch ports to the same settings (do not use auto config) and then let us know if things have improved.
Come back with the AIX release and maintenance level too, if you can.
As above, make sure the domain name resolution on the systems trying to connect are able to find the box too, ping, etc.
