Unsure of Linux, but HP-UX has a file called ftpusers (in /etc). If users are in this file, they cannot use ftp. Check man ftp and search for the keywords "allow" and "deny".
depending on your Linux installation (i.e. RedHat, Caldera, etc.) there are several different programs that allow/deny access for certain users via FTP....do you have your /root/ directory password protected? if not, then that's _definately_ the first side of your @$$ you should worry about covering.....if you have a good password it's 10,000x harder to hack in than if you don't. Other than that....you'd have to go through your user access setup to create other users than "root" with their own passwords & directroy access priveleges.
