Hi, I have a Novell 5.0 file server that I would like to transfer some files to from a Unix machine through FTP. Is this possible? Do I need any additional software for the Novell box?
You have to ensure that NWFTPD.NLM is loaded, don't think any other configuration is required. To test this, load the NLM on the server and from your workstation, see if you can attach via FTP.
Run a command prompt and run FTP.EXE. Type OPEN SERVER where SERVER is the name of your fileserver. When it prompts you for a username, type in the full login name and context (eg. MYNAME.CONTEXT.ORGANIZATION) and then the password when prompted.

"It's true, its damn true!"

I'm having trouble accessing the Install CD, after choosing install Other Novell Products, It says:
"Netware files will be installed from path:
NETWARE5:\INSTALL\NLS\4\"
after that:
"Directory path NETWARE5:\INSTALL\NLS\4\ either is invalid or does not contain the desired file <NETMAIN.ILS>. Press <F3> .........
Have you got the CD mounted properly in the server? Issue the VOLUMES command (at the console)and make sure the NW5 CD is listed. If not, you may have to issue LOAD CDROM to get it to mount.
Try that, come back if it's still not playing ball.
Got the CDROM mounted, I proceeded to access the CD, it is now sitting at:
"File Copy Staus (Main Copy) NWConfig is loading or has loaded another NLM. This screen will be unavailable for input until the product or configuration NLM terminates and returns control back to NWConfig....Please Wait"
Utilization is at 100%
Still waiting....been about 20 minutes. Started at about 8:15 am
