Hello
I have a hosted server (eg. ) and i've set up some secured dirs with .htaccess.(eg Now my question is: how can i access this dir with a ftp client by providing the login/pw as described in .htaccass?
note: i have no access to httpd

I like to give friends some space for hosting they're homepage.

Greetingz,
Tom

If you set the FTP server permissions correctly for their account (inherit all subdirectories under their directory), they can get at the restricted directory merely by logging into their FTP client with the regular FTP username and password. You can designate this to be the same as the .htaccess info when you create their FTP account.

Hi,

As you say you have no access to httpd, I presume you are running as a virtual host or otherwise have no control of apache or the host system. As such, you can't use ftp because you'd need to have control of the ftp server config for that.

You should, however, be able to get stuff uploaded via http using cgi scripts - there are a few examples lying around - see -->
Hope this helps
