We have a unix system that has been automatically sending files with ftp for years. In the last two days we are getting 421 errors. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this problem? Could this be a router problem? Right before this started to happen we had a power issue and had to reboot the unix system as well as the router. I did some research online and found thaty it could be related to too many ftp users or a configuration issue, but i doubt that is the case here. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a similar error (on Linux) recently when inetd couldn't launch in.ftpd correctly due to missing libraries.

Perhaps try running in.ftpd manually to see if it runs properly, and double-check that your inetd.conf is correct.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will keep them on file. I think we solved it by rebooting a windows server that also uses the router. Seems strange that this corrected the problem because it had been rebooted twice earlier in the week. I rebooted the windows server because I could not ftp from it either. Both the unix and windows server ftp processes would let me log in, but as soon as i tried to do anything (list files, put files, get files) they both threw an error.
