I am in the process of planning out an upgrade of a Windows 2000 domain to 2003 R2. In double checking our planned placement for the FSMO roles I looked at the following article:
All is well and good, but at the bottom where it lists what products the article applies to, it specifically lists 2003 32-bit edition, but does not mention the 64-bit. I can't think of a good reason that the placement of the roles would be different for the x64 version, but the article has me wondering. I did a little searching around and didn't find anything. Anyone know technical reasons the 64-bit version would be different in term of the FSMO's, or did they just neglect to include it in the list?

There is no difference between 32 or 64bit with regards to FSMO roles. The article hasn't been updated. That's all.

Just keep in mind that some things, like the resource kit, and the GPMC, don't run on the 64 bit version.

The tools won't run on the 64 bit server, but will still work from a 32 bit admin PC, correct?

Yes. Many of the tools will actually run on a 64 bit machine, like robocopy, but the resource kit and GPMC install programs won't run.
