Hello:

I have an AIX 5.2 system, that when fsck is run on /usr an Inode issue which I am unable to clear.

Checking /dev/hd2 (/usr) MOUNTED FILE SYSTEM; WRITING SUPPRESSED;
Checking a mounted filesystem does not produce dependable results.
** Phase 1 - Check Blocks and Sizes
Unknown file type I=370816 owner=1405974830 mode=37671662540
size=-1150921265 mtime=Jul 20 02:23 2008 (NOT CLEARED) (TERMINATED)

I have booted to maintenance mode / recovery and ran fsck on /usr as it was umounted however it does not find anything to correct. So I am un clear as to why I see this.

I have came across something as a possible fix, using the “fsdb” but I have never seen this issue so I am un-clear if this will fix or is a fix. Has anyone seen or encountered this and corrected before?
Thanks
Scott

Have you checked out what the offending file is?

Use find with the inode option on 370816.

The mtime date of 2008 is a little wierd.

yes i have tried it, and the system does not find it.

so i assume its an inode of a deleted file? On other flavors of Unix normally this is easy to correct.

If in maint mode, with /usr unmounted, there's no error, then I shouldn't worry about it.

HTH,

Well, what lead to all this, was a few weeks ago, a system
hang message and reboot in the errpt log. There was some message of a JFS issue, in which lead to an fsck being done.

So, we got hung up on this item we seen so to speak, and its an odd error i have not seen before where you cant clean it.

Well, on a mounted JFS, fsck wouldn't be able to *fix* anything. (MOUNTED FILE SYSTEM; WRITING SUPPRESSED).

What was the exact error message in the errpt?

HTH,

Also how did you do the maint mode fsck?

you should use "getrootfs hdisk0 sh" instead of "getrootfs hdisk0" and fsck on the dev E.g. fsck /dev/hd2

I got into Maint mode by booting off the cd, and doing mait/mode for recover, and the option to access root vg, before mouting all the file systems, then ran it so it was unmounted.

I cant recall the exact error, was some type of JFS error, file system halt, reboot, because the system actually rebooted itself, and this is how this all gotten started.
thanks

Are the errlog entries still available? Or has the errlog been errclear-ed since then?
