Has anyone had problems getting row linking to work?

I'm also trying to use the same row format in many different reports, except one row is different in each report. Because of this I have to have a separate row format for each. Every time we add a new GL account in Great Plains, I have to go into each row format and add a row for that new account.

Any solutions for me would be appreciated. There sure isn't much FRx help in TK.

Thanks!

Hi - Can you provide a little background on what you are trying to achive with row linking? Row linking can be useful for minimizing maintenance but Account Sets are a newer feature that might be more appropriate.

FRx has some great tools for eliminating / reducing the exact problem you describe - out of balance reports when an account is added.

Give me some more detail (and which version of FRx you are using) and I'll fix you up! (Can't help it, I'm an FRx geek)

The nature of FRx is that it doesn't not automatically include any new Great Plains accounts. If you are using rows that have a single account you will end up having to go into FRx and add a row for that account.

However, if you are able to roll up amounts on one row you can use an account range instead of a single account. Then, as long as the new account falls within that range it will be included.

For example, your various salary accounts are 5000-5099 and you report then all together on one row. If the user adds account 5050 it will be included. But if your rows are like: Director salary 5000, Manager salary 5010, etc, the 5050 account would have to be added into another row.

Sorry I haven't checked on this in a while-not even sure what I was looking for anymore. Some of my row formats cover a range of accounts, but it's when I have to use individual accounts that it becomes a problem.

I will look into Account Sets a little more. We're using version 6.0.95. I currently view the exception reports for missing accounts - that works great, but then I have to add the new accounts to several row formats.

My problem could be solved if I could figure out a way to do this:

Each company has a different year-end and one of my rows is a CAL with the period number that's used to pro-rate another row value based on the number of periods. Each row format has to be updated each month to change this number and also for any additional accounts. If I could have one row for each company that would help.

Thanks!
