My printer just died and I have asked HP(the brand of printer) for help online and still nothing. Even tried to fix it myself, still doesn't work. The light flashes saying it doesn't detect paper. Any way, looks like I am shopping for a new printer as the price to get it looked at is more than the printer itself. Just seems so wasteful to throw it away and I still have ink.( the ink cost $55.00!!!) I am so annoyed! >:-<

Welcome to the real world.
Just think of all the repair people they don't need any more. Manufacture them off-shore for $20, box and ship for $20, sell for $60 and make the real profit on supplies.
The only people hurt are the techs that could make a fair living and the people living next to the landfill that can't see over the hill. And of course, the people who need to keep buying printers every year.

The trade-off is the spares administration and the cost overhead involved there. Throw that in, and the $60 printer will cost $150.

Pull the covers and see if you can find the photosensor that is used to detect paper. And clean it. Might help.

Hi ed.

The hps I use are so old that in a similar situation I found the same model in a thrift shop to use up ink.

If you're into on-line auction buying you could check them for your model or a similar one that uses your cartridge.

My office depot regularly cycles out floor models at a small discount.

If you want to store the cartridge for awhile you may be able to find a cartridge case/garage/humidor on on-line auctions.

also you can find cds that have repair manuals for groups of hp printers, have heard good reports on some of them for laserjets, have no feedback on ones for inkjets.

There are some printer repair sites/forums out there too. I think there's one in Yahoo somewhere. You can try googling on things like your printer, error symptoms, printer repair etc. However my guess would be if you take edfairs suggestion and do cleaning and it still doesnt work, it's not worth your time and effort to go further.
