Help! I am sooo frusterated. Everytime I try to link to anything front page is adding strange stuff to the link. My web is contained in a file on my E drive called My Site and has been there for over a year.

All of the sudden when I try to link insert a pic, link to a file, etc. it throws in the following:

file/////E:/MySite/bg1.jpg (for example)

I have deleted it and put it back in, manually typed the info (ex:bg1.jpg), etc. and when I click properties there is all the junk again. And of course if I upload the page - it's fried!

Can anyone help?!

Thank you!

FrontPage puts the path to the file in your code. If the image (in this example) is not in your FrontPage folders and you edit the code by hand the link will continue to attempt to pull the file from your E drive. Any time you see a reference that starts with "file:\\" it will mean that the HTML page is looking for the embedded file on your hard drive which of course will never work on the web.

If you move the images you want to use into your FrontPage images folder (or into any folder in your web) and then insert them you will get a correct "relative" link. This does not sound very clear but try it and you'll see it works.

What FrontPage is doing is setting the link for your computer. I found that this problem occurred when I copied and pasted a link into another page. Basically, when the site is loaded up, it's still looking for the page on your hard drive.

When you edit the properties of the hyperlink, you do need to select it from the list displayed (I've found that sometimes removing something from it doesn't work right) instead of deleting out the rest of the unwanted text.

I ran into this in a web site I took over earlier this year.

Make sure the images you need are in the image directory, (or wherever you are keeping them).

In Front Page's Normal mode, right click on the image, and choose Picture Properties. Don't rely on what it says in the Picture source, do a Browse and make sure you are picking the image from the folder in the web directory you are working on.

I found that even though the Picture source says rightpicture.jpg, it may be pointing to a directory on the hard drive. Unless you have a lot of images and you want to make your own directories to store them, I would reccomend keeping all images in the image directory. It's easier to make sure you have all the graphics in place.
