I would like to use custom link bars for separate sections of my website.

The help file says it is possible to apply shared borders to selected pages and subpages but I cannot seem to separate different toppages to allow the use of a different left hand link bar for each occasion.

I have a number of different toppages with associated child pages.

Am I barking up the wrong tree? Help

Robert

Hi RobSimpson,
do you want to create a totally different navigation bar for each top page and attached child pages or do you simply want each child page to link to its associated parent page and sibling pages?
Depending on which way you want to go I'm sure I can help.

It is a school website. I want most pages to have a common navigation structure.

I have an information toppage. Below it I have a page for each class, class 1, class 2, class 3 etc.

I want the top page to show class 1, class 2, class 3 (ie child pages).

I want the child pages to show the same navigation so you don't have to go "up" each time to the toppage and then back down to a different page. I want to be able to go 'sideways'.

I can get this to work with a custom linkbar but can't separate the borders for the Information toppage and its children from the other pages in the web. I end up with all pages getting class 1, class 2 etc.

Hope you can help.

Robert

Hi RobSimpson,
you need to set the link bar for the class pages to show 'Same Level' or 'Back and Next' in the link bar properties. This way each class page will either list all the other class pages so you can navigate freely, or alternatively with 'Back and Next' you can navigate from Class 1 to Class 2 etc

Hope this helps

Thanks Liamm

I've tried this solution but each time I change the class link to be same level, the toppage link changes too and I lose the "child level" setting.

I'll battle on with a basic link bar for the moment until I get my head around it.

What about subwebs? Do they work the same.
