I'm using FrontPage 2002 and am trying to publish to a Win2k server with IIS and FrontPage server extensions installed.

Do I need to have the 2002 extensions installed on the server or should the 2000 ones work?

I'm having fits because I'm going thru all the plain vanilla steps of creating a new website, installing the extensions and creating a content directory on the root of the server but when I go to publish a website (or even try to create a new one for that matter) I keep getting, 'does not appear that extensions are installed for this webserver'.

help would be appreciated ....

You will require FrontPage 2002 extensions on the server. FP2002 extensions are compatible with FP 2000, but not vice versa. The new code for FP2002 Extensions has changed so drastically you require it to code sites if using FP2002 (XP).

thanks Chris. This does not seem to be well published by MS.

no it's not. Certain version of MS products have such drastic change that their components are not 100 % compatible if any with other versions. But they do offer backward compatibility. But in your case since you are using Frontpage 2002 and trying to connecto to FP2000 extensions does not work because of this drastic change in code.
