I'm currently learning Frontpage through self-study. My problem is I can't get a SUBMIT button to work. The browser displays an error message that reads:
"...Internet explorer cannot open the Internet site C:\FrontPageWebs\Content\Desserts\_vti_bin\shtml.exe\index.htm
The system cannot find the path specified"

I checked the "C:\FrontPageWebs\Content\Desserts\_vti_bin\shtml.exe" and found that shtml.exe file is a real .EXE and not a folder as the error message is trying to indicate. I'm using FrontPage 97 equipped with "server extensions" and using a ready-made tutorial sample FrontPage web that came with the product. The FrontPage Web I'm working with is located in a PC. Right now I don't have knowledge in HTML programming. Can anybody help me figure out what's wrong? Am I missing something? Thanks, in advance. :)

Medic,
This is one of the problems with using tools like Frontpage. Although they can hide the programming syntax from you, when you run into problems, they're hard to solve. In my opinion, you should get at least a basic knowledge of HTML before using one of these WYSIWIG editors. Another problem is that Frontpage generates Internet Explorer specific code, so if you want your page to work in Netscape, you'll usually need to make changes to your page manually.
That being said, I have never used Frontpage, but usually, when doing web development, you don't access web pages locally (using the c:\dirname\filename format). You access the pages through a web server ( Could that be the problem?

I had this problem also. now im using a standard CGI-script that is saved with my own internetprovider.

you can use this link also if you want to.

it has a little HTML-programming. maybe you can send this page to me. if you give me the email that it has to be sended to. and a page on internet with text, example: Thank you for filling in my form. (OR SOMETHING).

mail me if you need help:

Thanks a lot guys. :)
I hope it will be all right with you if I'm going to ask more questions on HTML some other time (I will contact you through your respective e-mail addr).
Since it might take a long time before I learn enough of HTML to develop my web project, I shall wait for more help and advise regarding my FrontPage problem.

Medic,
It's better to post questions here than send them via email. This way
1) more people will see the post, and therefore, you have more potential help
2) other people with the same problems as you will be able to search the forum to find their solution.

good luck. we're here to help!

Sorry, I was not able to respond immediately. I was out this last weekend. Thanks for that advise Nick. I shall inform you through this thread as soon as this FrontPage problem is solved. :)
