I have Apache/2.2.10 on openSUSE 11.1, and I am trying to install the FrontPage extensions. I found a copy of the FP Extension 5.0 but during the installation (running fp_install.sh) it says it is going to replace the running Apache with version 1.3.19. Not want I want.

I have google for a long time, and keep getting referred back to the "Ready To Run Software" website and they say the no longer provide it. They have links to Microsoft, which are no longer valid. A number of mailing list archives have references to installing the FP extensions, but the newest I have found are from 2007 and do not reflect either the files I have or how the install script appears to be working.

So to make a long story short, I was hoping that someone would have an update version of the FP Extenstions where I could either simply drop the .so into place or the source with accurate instructions of how to compile and install it.

All help is appreaciated.

I think you're out of luck. To the best of my knowledge, Microsoft doesn't even publish FrontPage server extensions for IIS any more.

Of course the first question that came to my mind when I read your post was, "Why on earth would you want to do that?"

Thanks for the reply.

My son is in band and I registered the band's name and set up the domain on a server I have. Someone else is creating the site and uses FrontPage. I've suggested any number of other tools, but the person doing the site uses FrontPage. I was doing this as a favor to my son, but it has become a lot more work that I had planned.

Your website writer needs to understand he/she is using a technology that Microsoft, itself, has abandoned.

And frankly, good riddance. I've seen FrontPage Server Extensions spectacularly trash IIS on more than a dozen occasions. And though I did actually manage to get FPSE to run under Apache (on Linux) once, I have no idea how I did it, nor was I ever able to duplicate the feat -- I do know I had to use Apache 1.x to make it work.

Frankly, you'd be better off spending your effort authoring the site yourself, even if you have to learn a programming language yourself, than trying to get FPSE working.

Thanks for pointing that out. I will definitely drop him an email and pass that along.
