Hi,
I have been using tek-tips for over a year now and think it is great but i am new to this forum. I am a Software Engineering Student so I am one of this rare people that actually likes programming. Anyway I have been trying to use the database wizard in FP and having absoutely no success. I have been using a FrontPage book. It keeps going on that needs and ASP. I have created a form on the webpage and given it an ASP extension. I tried to change the webpage extension to .asp but then when i preview it it opens up InterDev. Also the wizard gives u a change to write SQL how do I reference a textbox on a wepage in SQL? Is it similar to accessing a control in an Access Form? Help please!!!

Thank u in advance I looked through some of the previous threads and everyone seems to be able to do this first step no problem.

Have you set the folder where the asp page is located to allow for programs and scripts to run? That's absolutely essential.

I've been having some problems, and got assistance from Microsoft. Among the things I learned was that in many cases, asp pages will not work anywere except in the root directory. So If you've been trying to put the asp pages in a special asp directory, they won't work. It aggrevates me to death to have to adjust everything from FP98 designs to FP2000, but that is one of the things that I had to do.
Then just make sure that your root directory allows for scripts and programs to run.

ASP pages only work if they are viewed with a browser (Client side) then stored and served on a web server (server side). You cannot browse to a file with the explorer and get an ASP page to open up in a browser. The page has to be Hosted by a server that does all of the script and serving. It sounds like you do not have a web server on your machine or the service is not turned on. windows 2000 comes with IIS5 as a service that can be installed. Else I think there is something called Personal Web Server. Once these are installed, you can browse your pages with a browser by typing in the web address of your page something like
Notice that this is an http:// address....it is not your C:/ address of the files....it is the path from the root of your webserver not your c:/root

as for the post before mine.....I have never had any problem using asp in any directory no matter how far from the root I am using WIN2k, FP2k and IIS5

I hope this helps
