Hello

I have never designed an e-mail form on frontpage before,
and it is an order form with 20 repetitive rows + others.
My only concern is getting the information from the users
and maybe displaying a confirmation message. I'd like to keep the form, scripts and others will require typing all fields in. The page was not uploaded because of tech. difficulties with the host and I was wondering if the form will perform on the local computer so I can test it or is it not supposed to, so far no luck. I entered e-mail options and save file path (local), entered sample data and no result ("The Page Cannot be Displayed", "cannot find server or DNS error"). Action field in the form is always changed to "Webbot-Self" after running/preview form. I've read about the server extensions and they are on but it is not an issue since form is not on the server yet.

Does anyone know this ?
Thanks,

Hi Cyberat,

The FrontPage form will only work in conjunction with the extensions and publishing with FrontPage to http location.

You might try publishing to a free server such as
They have the extensions and this is a good way to test.

Although this is a little simple...

When I hit submit in browser preview and get the Following

--------------------------------------
FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page.
--------------------------------------

then I am confident I have a working form. If you get this after publishing then it would be an indication of missing or corrupt extensions.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal

Hi

Uploading to Netfirms gave me "[FrontPage Save Results Component]" on top of the form and the HTTP 404 - page not found error, once I clicked the submit button. I made sure the save directories were changed to reflect the server. The address would be: cyberat.netfirms.com/TIC/TIC_Order-Form.htm
Publishing from FrontPage fails to pass the password check and if I use FTP address it fails to ask for username & password. So I get to "permission denied - 553" at some point. Can't figure why this wouldn't work "out of the box", but then again we are talking about Microsoft Crashware. Sorry AMysticWeb, my problem is different than that you described.

Thanks.

Hi Cyberat,

At this point, you are directing the form to itself. This will normally not work with FrontPage.

Keep it simple. Create a .txt file in your _private folder in which to store results. If you open the folder and take a peek, you may see an existing file you can use. So, the new file path would be something along the lines of It doesn't matter what the name of the text file is, as long as it exists in the _private folder. I prefer to set the results to Formatted Text.

Re: Netfirms: Although they have the extensions available, sometimes they may need a reinstall. From the looks of things, I think changing the form properties as I suggested may fix things.

If you publish the form to FTP location, you will get the Save Results Component message. Using FTP interferes with the extensions ability to act on the form properties. The FrontPage form must be published to http location. If netfirms isn't accepting FrontPage publish, the the extensions would need to be reinstalled.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal

You might be right about re-installing extensions.
I got past the password thing, silly me, first password prompt was my proxy server then the ftp server.
I changed the name of the file and format to TXT(it was different than form before but confusing I guess)published from frontpage and I got the form script and validation running but then I got this error:
Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page: "Wonder if that's the extension problem, my pdf pluggins were knocked out recently as well. I should check into that.

Thanks Again.

Hi cyberat,

I see a lot of problems with settings for Frontpage forms being sent to subwebs and random folders.

My suggestion is still to change to something like the following.

My apologies. I made a couple of typos on this path in my previous post. Shouldn't have responded when I was half asleep.

With the file path in your last post, you are still submitting the form to itself. This doesn't work. It will always produce some type of error.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal

Hey cyberat,

Looks like you are sending to Cgi formmail now.

If you want to try something different.

Create a new page name it something like order.htm

Avoid the folder approach to your order page. Use a file path similar to the above. If after publishing you still get the component message, contact NetFirms support and ask them to reinstall the extensions for you.

Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal

Thanks AMysticWeb

Like I said in the first message, Netfirms is my testing ground, I switched to CGI because it works. I will use this website not just for work, but for my personal projects, so splitting directories is essential and should work simple enough (theoretically :p). I don't like the format it saved and mailed, I'd very much like to have it as a table or the HTML page itself. The problems with our internet host are many and we didn't even get to connect FTP yet. I suggested we switch hosts, but my M.I.S. Director says we're getting some bonuses staying with the current one. I don't know if they support CGI or FrontPage extensions or how well they are maintained. I updated the FP extensions on my PC, password check on Netfirms is still failing when publishing.

Thanks.
