Front Page Themes

I have a web page. I click the Format tab and choose Themes. I see a theme I like so I double click it and it throws the background of the theme on to my page. The icon of the themes, show that the headings and buttons are also subject to the theme, yet when I add text for (let's say) a heading how do I apply the theme properties to it?
And buttons too?
