I have been searching for a good front-end tool to work with MySQL, but have been unable to connect to the MySQL server with any I have tried. The database is part of a hosting package I puchased, so I have limited control over server permissions. Is there a way to overcome this problem? I really like the windows-based applications more than the web-based.

Trying different packages isn't really going to solve an underlying problem. What errors do you get when trying to connect? Windows? Unix? Do you have shell access so that you can attempt to manually connect from there and see if that's working? --

Generally speaking, allowing the open internet to access a database server is a very bad idea. Most likely, your hosting provider is blocking access to the server at their firewall.

If you are connecting to the internet from outside their network, chances are you will never be able to connect to the server with a database client on your computer.

You might speak with your hosting provider about access to phpMyAdmin (a web-based MySQL management tool) or its like. Want the best answers? Ask the best questions: TANSTAAFL!
