FROM BASIC EDITION TO PREFERRED

Hello
im running an upgrade from R7 BASIC EDITION to R11.1 PREFERRED However A1S doesn't populate New R11 Essential Edition which was a prerequisite for Preferred Editon.
Should i also add manually a R11 Essential Edition license or i can upgrade direct from Basic to R11 Preferred?

You need an Essential Edition license along with a Preferred License. You need to change the mode from Basic to Standard.

Once you have all of your licenses figured out, change the mode, it will be unusable until the proper licenses are added. Upgrade from 7 to 9.0, and then to 11.1. Add the PLDS .xml file.

With the time involved with a step upgrade, why not just buy a new chassis and load R11.1 SP1?

The labor charge would probably be a wash with the Chassis and the programming is probably minimal being Basic.

Also, remember R11.1 required the VM Pro to be Linux (Application Server)

I 100% agree with dsm600rr here do yourself and your customer a favor and buy a new IP 500 V2 and SD card. Most likely the SD card you have is 4GB which you do not want to use on R11 (not to mention the older SD cards had higher failure rates). R7.0's final release was in 2012 so your IP 500 V2 is most likely, at minimum, 8 years old. They are making a major commitment, and incurring a large cost, to go from basic mode to standard mode with preferred edition. The last thing you want to do is go through all this and have your IP 500 V2 or SD card fail shortly after the upgrade.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.
