Hi People,

I have an access database now (MDB) as frontend and as backend I have an access database too..
Unfortunatly the speed is too slow on my customers network and he decided too switch too SQL server as a backend...
Now I have no experience with that whatsoever but I really wanna learn...
I managed to convert the backend (tables) to SQL and my understanding is that to get the most benefits I'll need to convert the frontend to an access data project.. but.. where to begin??? I read many things like stored procedures/views/T-SQL etc etc... Is there any good reference for newbie's like myself??

Thanks for your input.

Richard

One recommended book is Microsoft Access Develor's Guide to SQL Server -
I'm working with Access 2000 connected to SQL 7 ...

And have had to find a number of workarounds for problems in this first release that included Access Project.

Hopefully, you have newer versions.

And, folks here have been VERY helpful to me!

HTH,

He Bob,

Thanks.
You won't believe it but today I received the book that you recommended.. I already ordered it.. so im sure I made the right choice :-D
I'll start reading and see what im up against. LOL

Thanks

Richard

Thats a good book.
I just finished a conversion and basicly, you can keep your forms and your reports, but the VB code will have to be changed if it does any data handling. Queries will have to be replaced by stored procedures or views.

I found it helpful to paste the SQL from my access queries into stored procedures, rather than try to write them from scratch.

There are enough differences so that this will seem more like building a new project from a spec than a conversion.
