I just installed red hat enterprise version 4 and everything went great but I cannot ping it's hostname for some weird reason. When I give it a static IP I can ping that just fine. I looked through the DNS info on it and don't see anything wrong. Am I missing something??

From where are you pinging your new server? From the server itself or from another machine?

ok, one last question. after i add it on my DNS server i can ping computer_name.domain_name.com but if i just ping the computer name alone without the domain name attached it cannot reach it from my xp machine. why is that? i double checked the record i added and it looks correct.
