I need to know how to backup the SQL Server 2000 databases and then restore them to SQL Server 2005.

Our current setup is Windows 2000 with SQL Server 2000, although we need to format and fresh install Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2005.

Do I just need to use the Backup Database dialog in EM to backup all of the databases to a different server, then format, install Win2003 and SQL Server 2005 and then restore them? Or do I need to back them up to the other server, install Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2000, restore the databases to SQL Server 2000 and then upgrade SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005?

Thanks,
Drew

You can back them up from SQL 2000 and restore directly to SQL 2005. SQL 2005 will accept a SQL 2000 backup, and convert it to a SQL 2005 database.
