I have just done a fresh install of server 2003 (std edition) on a custom built machine (specs below)
after the setup of the os right before the logon screen should appear the machine just freezes
completely (cant even change the CAPS light on the keyboard) all i see is a grey background and the
mouse icon in the middle of the screen. it does this no matter how many times i try doing a fresh
install.
I have done a fresh install of xp (without changing and hardware/bios configs) and xp works fine.
On the server 2003 setup I can boot into safe mode just fine. but seeing as this is a fresh install i
cant see it being a config/software problem so i am thinking a hardware issue?
The system
-----------
M/B: Asus P5N32-E SLI
Proc: Intel Core 2 Qaud 2.4ghz
Mem: 4GB
Hard Disk: 2 x 750GB SATA Western Digital Hard Drives
The hard disks are setup in raid 1 but i also tried a different hard disk (Samsung 160GB SATA) on its
own with no raid array, and still the problem is present. I even partitioned to install on a mere 75GB partition just incase windows didnt like a big drive. I also am using the CD provided by asus with
the motherboard for the SATA driver to allow windows and server detect SATA drives. (yes i reformated
the floppy with the correct driver for the correct os )
the SATA/Raid drivers i am using are:
NVIDIA RAID CLASS DRIVER (required)
NVIDIA nForce Storage Controller (required)
the required is not my words just says it on the end when i specifiy addition drivers from the disk.
I am really really confused as i have had server 2003 installed on this machine with the same hardware
before. hope i have given enough info to help you help me
Thank you,
Michael
