French Characters in Text Object (e.g. r ) not printing

I am using an older version of Crystal Reports (v7.0). I have a text object on my report with text in French. The Times New Roman font letter of 'r' appears fine in design and preview w/in Crystal. If I generate my report through my C++ based application, the r shows as a regular r.

Any ideas? I have tried different fonts, styles, alt-keys, copy from character map, nothing seems to work.

The R in my post did not come through. It is the lower case r w/ the ` accent symbol over it.
