"--> HARD DRIVE NOT WORKING? PUT IT IN THE FREEZER!
I currently have a column on MSN on how to know when you need a new
computer. Among the issues addressed is hard drive problems. A reader,
Robert, pointed out that a few hours in the freezer might revive a dead
hard drive. That's because tolerances are close, and the cold might
cause the metal to shrink enough to allow the head to work. I haven't
tried this, but it could work as a last-ditch effort. Put the hard
drive in a sealable plastic bag to keep out moisture. When you
reinstall the hard drive, move your data to a new hard drive quickly.
Once it warms up, any benefit from the cold will be gone. Go here to
