freezes up when i install somethign new

okay i have a compaq mv540 right had it ever since year of 2000 dec. its giving me problems when i install

I'm afraid I don't have a solution, but I am having the same problem with two of my Proliant ML 370s. Not much help so far from Compaq support. Does anyone out there know if this is a known issue?
