Freeware/Open Source SNMP Manager

I'm looking into using SNMP for monitoring our company's UPS and environmental monitors. Both can be configured to send SNMP traps for events such as low UPS runtime. I would like the ability to run programs/scripts upon receiving event notices in order to perform soft shutdowns of lab servers and storage arrays.

However, I don't currently have the budget to invest in software. Do you have any suggestions for freeware/open source programs, which could meet these demands? I've done a substantial amount of searching but haven't found anything that is really functional.

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before. I couldn't find anything in the archives that addressed my particular concerns.

For trap processing, you can use snmptrapd (part of Net-SNMP) to get the traps into syslog. I use logdog (

http://caspian.dotconf.net/menu/Software/LogDog/)

to send some alerts based on log messages.

For actually monitoring, I use Nagios (

http://www.nagios.org)

and Cacti (

http://www.raxnet.net).
