Hi,

We are having some issues with ISP's blocking my clients VPN connections. Most times they can connect to our Linux VPN Gateway with no issues but lately it's become a real hit and miss deal. Especailly with our corporate travelers (inlcuding myself)I find more and more IPS's are blocking VPN access. My questuion is then...is there a better option for VPN that is less likely to be blocked? Would using PPTP be better? I was once at the airport and trying to connect to my office with no luck and yet the guy beside me could connect with no problem using his VPN. Unfortunately, I never did get a chance to ask him which technology he was using. Anyway...if anyone has some ideas or can offer some better solution tips...I'm open to all.

TIA

Pikk

My question to you is, why is your ISP blocking anything? Normally all they do is provide internet connectivity; unless you contract with them to handle your firewall and security issues. What type of VPN are you suing currently? Is it IPSEC or L2TP?

I guess I wasn't clear. :) My ISP doesn't block anything. It's other ISP's...for instance; if I go to a hotel on business and try to connect to my office via the hotel network connection and my VPN...it doesn't work. However, I could be at another hotel the next week and it will work fine. Same with the airport wireless zones. Some work...some won't.

I use a Linux box with FreeSwan and IpSec.

Clients are 2000 and XP using IpSec to connect.
