Hi,

I just started using PowerBuilder last week, and have enjoyed ploughing through the two tutorials supplied through the online books ('Getting Started' and 'PFC Tutorial'). So far I am very impressed by the programming environment, but I'd really like to do more tutorials (esp. about DataWindows) for now.

I won't have to actually write anything on PB until late September, so I currently don't have anything concrete to do - unfortunately, my fantasy isn't good enough to dream up a sample task for myself so I'd be glad if someone could suggest some tutorials or sample tasks that I can get my hands on. I have tried to find some tutorials on the Net but the few there are are all for PB 4 or 5 (I'm using version 7.0 Build 5031) and the others are not free.

Also, I was wondering whether some more experienced PB programmers could give me advice about PB training - I am quite good at teaching myself stuff and I'm quite experienced with VB (which is very similar to PowerScript I'd say), so do you think it's worth going on an introductory PB training course after I've had time to familiarise myself with the application for nearly 2 months?

Thanks

Hello.

If you want some demo code etc then is a good site to look at. Also have some good example code as well.
I would have to say that courses are a great way to learn the specialities of PowerBuilder (Datawindows, connection objects etc) which can save you time making the transition (although I would say that as I work for Sybase :) ). I have been on pretty much all of the courses and the Fastrack to PowerBuilder is a information packed course. You would be amazed at the time saving you can make compared to VB once you learn the DataWindows.

P.S Make sure you have downloaded the latest builds for PowerBuilder from the website.

Thanks, I'll check it out. By now I've already got myself used to PB, DataWindows etc. and I've already done some coding for our existing application, so I won't need an intro course, but the specialised ones (esp. DataWindow and PFC) sound good :)

Currently trying to convince the company to move to PB 8, although I do have the latest build for PB 7 :)

Andrea will be updated soon... well, at least I hope so ;-)
