If you haven't heard of this site before it builds and packages GNU software for Solaris for free.
If you are used to Linux and feel that Solaris is missing several valuable utilities then you can get them here along with the famous GCC compiler for SPARC.
The software is installed to /usr/local/ so doesn't interfere with the stock solaris install. If you want to use the utilities above Solaris ones alter the path to place /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/sbin at the start.
You will find loads of useful software here. I find it a godsend, as it supplies the complete GNU toolchain for Solaris.
