Is there such a thing as free non-demo CAS? Something that will work off of SMDR port on a Merlin Magix? I see upgrades for Windows CAS on Avaya's website, but not the actual program.

Not that I know of, but a clever person could easily develope an "AFTER THE FACT" Excel Spread sheet to do this.

Try Tapit or another inexpensive product - the old you get what you pay for thing

merlinman, I'm in a similar predicament, I need to set up a call accounting logging. I've been using the hyperterminal program to log what's coming out of the SMDR port, but the hypertermial program doesn't write the contents to a text file automatically, you have to end the session first. I'm trying to set up a real-time log that requires no intervention.

You said a clever person could easily develope an "AFTER THE FACT" Excel Spread sheet to do this, and I'm hoping you can just point me in the right direction on how this can be done, as it seems to be exactly what I'm looking to do. Thanks so much!!

OK, I guess PROCOMM WOULD DO THAT BETTER THAN HYPER TERM.

Once you have a captured file, you can look at it with Notepad or Word and figure out the DELIMETERS.

(Like semi colons or commas or whatever)

AND THEN export it to EXCEL.

If you have your raw out put, email it to me and I'll see if I can do what I think can be done with this.

Ok thanks. I think I may have misunderstood you. I'm trying to get the raw data into a log file. Once I have that, I can create my reports no problem. It's getting the raw data that I'm having a problem with. I can't believe that Avaya doesn't have a free tool of some kind to log the data on thir own system.

All I'm looking to do is log the data from the SMDR port to some kind of flat file (txt, log, etc.) I was using the hyperterminal which worked ok, but that doesn't automatically log the contents of the session to the file, you need to manually end the session, then it will write to the log, then restart the sesion. I'm looking for something that will simply log the data directly to a log or text file. That's it. Then I can create reports based on that, and backup the log on my network.

Any suggestions on how I can do that? We're in a bit of a budget pinch right now, so spending $$ isn't an option right now. I thought I could find some freeware that just did that, but no luck. Do I need to write my own program or something?

Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

This is a question probably better suited for the Windows forum, but without writing a program, maybe you could create a batch file to turn hyperterm on and off, the run the .bat file in scheduler?
