James,

Okay, now you're jusy being scary.

My local paper just replaced four comics with four new ones, including "Frazz." (by "just replaced", I mean TODAY 11/27 was the newbies' first appearance).

No one, ever, completely agrees with a comic page realignment, but Frazz looks promising.

The Raleigh News & Observer ditched Cathy (hurray!), Hagar, Drabble and Boondocks. For reasons unknown, they kept Sylvia and Gil Thorpe. We "gained" Frazz, Edge City, Watch Your Head, and Pearls Before Swine.

Yesterday, in a totally and completely unrelated yet somehow "Frazzled" moment, I emailed my old elementary school to inquire as to why its name had changed.

I have to ask: what prompted your Frazz post, on this of all days?

THanks,
Tim

I get the same paper as Tim, so today was my introduction to Frazz.

Is it just me, or is that Calvin all grown up? The resemblance seems quite obvious to me.

I would imagine the impetus was the subject of language and the multiple sounds the same combinations of letters can make... Basically the content was MAI-relevent.

It's the great comic strip shake-out. Papers and syndicates are going for the low bidder to fill the comics page, and the subscriber be damned.

Often these "improvements" come without warning. One of the most-discussed issues in our Letters to the Editor last year was the yanking of Mutts. Bad move; they decided to reinstate instead of going on the cheap with something like Six Chix.

That's one reason I like Comics.com. They have some of the oldies and some of the newest. I still like Alley Opp and I've been reading Frazz and Rudy Parks since their beginning. Frazz often does puns and play on words. Rudy Parks is more of a send-up of high tech gadgets and daily life.

I also used to look at King Syndicates for the other comics not found on Comics.com but they went to subscription based readership :-(

BTW, here is the Frazz archive:
