I am connecting a franking machine to the IP office and when I have done this in the past there has been an RJ end to the franking machine so that it can plug into an analogue port on the phone system but the one I am currently looking to add to the phone system has a BT end and was plugged into a BT analogue line. The customer would now like to connect this to the phone system, would a BT to RJ converter allow me to do this?

In the past im sure I tried to do this woth a Pitney Bowes franking machine and it was not able to call out.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Jimbo.

Have you watched the call progress with monitor? That might give you an idea.

I had a problem with a mail machine, and setting the unit to pulse fixed my problem. In my case the customer was loading postage with a 1-888-XXX-XXXX number, and the unit was dialling out too quickly.

You could look at the call with SSA as well. That might give you a clue too...

Regards

Well this works with a Pitney Bowes P720 machine.

Make sure you check the phone parameter e.g.

tone/pulse dialling
dialling prefix

I don't think that BT to RJ adapter type is critical but I'm told that a secondary adapter is OK
(so no electronics inside.

You just need a Master Balun/Line adaptor, a secondary will work... but if they ever stick a fax/extn on it will not ring, as they are pennies difference you may as well do it properly. You can even make a cable yourself, it's not hard if you have a crimp kit :)

FYI around 4.2/5 we had issues with certain PDQ's not seeing the line/detecting dial tone on IP Office extns, then the same PDQ's started working again at 6/6.1, not had any issues since. Perhaps this is when you tried the Pitney Bowes machine and had the issue :)
