hi folks

just was wondering what would people generally recommend - setting up a web page in frames or standard pages. I'm designing my own web site and was thinking that it may be easier to have the navigation menu, which is on the left and which I have designed using show/hide layers fo the pop up menus, as a seperate frame. Wouldn't this make it easier to update etc and even esaier making all the links to other parts of the site rather than having to insert links on every single new page that I design.

Are there any major draw backs to using frames that I haven't been told about.

thanks

Yeah, they're a pain in the butt. :)

No, really, frames always seem to give me trouble, because they look so different on other peoples' computers. Plus, if you're using any kind of dynamic pages, I've never been able to make .asp or .cfm pages work with frames. Easier to make a template, and start with that.

You're welcome to try frames, though. If you have better luck than I have, please post your results, and pass along any tips that might make it easier. Good luck!

I agree with Snoopy75.

One suggestion though as I have never liked the way DW handles templates is to create 1 page with all your navigation on then keep that as a master document and "save as" to create new pages. This way you can utilise the find and replace function to update all pages.

Hi Colli,

I agree with both Snoopy75 and Cheech. but another thing you should keep in mind that if you use frames and people bookmark the page, for later use, they won't see the frames, so my suggestion is go with Cheech, and do all the pages, then update navigation with find and replace.
