They are not the same thing. It's a couple of big topics though, so maybe a link to a comparison of the two would help -

That dates from 2002, but is still a decent intro to the two topics, although bandwidth speeds etc have obviously moved on

yes it's rather hard to describe the differences between the two. you could write a short book on the differences honestly.
