We currently have 1/4 T-1 frame relay connection. We are looking at going to a 3meg cable modem and then probably on to a fiber connection in the near future. As I am new to this stuff I have a couple of questions for you experts if you dont mind.

1. We have an ISP now. We have our own domain name registered and use it with email, etc. When we move to the cable company we want to keep our domain name and not @internetservice.net etc. How will we go about that?

2. Will it be much trouble to switch our router tables to point to the new i.p. address given to us by the cable company? It is a Cisco 2600 series.

3. Can you think of any other potential problems we might run into by doing this with the exception of the download speeds not remaining constant due to traffic, etc.

Thanks in advance for the help.

For the email issue, are you running your own mail server or ist it hosted for you. If it is hosted for you then you have nothing to worry about. if it isn't then you can look into either finding an email host or setup a mail server.

For the route issue, are you getting a static ip from the cable company or dynamic. I am assuming static but I work for a cable company and I know that most don't give static ip's.

Other than that you really shouldn't have many problems with speed at all, unless your node is over saturated then you should be fine.
