I am getting ready to switch over frame relay service providers in a couple of days. I have a three site WAN with cisco 1750 routers at each site. The topology is a star, a head end and two remote locations. Each router has a WIC 1DSU T1 card in SLOT0.
Part of my switchover includes changing the service at the two remote loactions to 56k DDS from the fractional T1's that they currently enjoy (cost!!!). I plan on putting the WIC 1DSU 56k4 cards in SLOT1.
I have two questions:
1. Can I install the cards and then leave the SLOT1 serial interface unconfigured or will it prompt me to configure it as soon as I turn the router back on? I want to travel to the two remote sites, install the cards and leave the current fractional t1's running for a few days then configure the new interfaces and bring up the new service.
2. How reliable is the CISCO configmaker utility? It hates my currently running config because I don't use subinterfaces on Serial0 at the Head End where the two remotes are connecting. I was thinking I might try the basic configuration it is recommending with the subinterface and then add my own necessary static routes, etc. If I use it to deliver the new configuration will it overwrite the current config in nvram or just current running-config?
Thanks In Advance
