Hello,

Well first off im new to frame relay. Ive been trying to do research over the technology by myself. I understand how to configure a cisco router for frame relay. However no matter what book i look in, no one seems to say flat out what equiptment other than a router do i need? Lets say i just want to hook an office network up to the internet at oh lets say greater than a T1 speed, but no more than a T3. So far, i understand you need to talk to a carrier. You tell the carrier what you want. They say ok and run a line out to your location and terminate it at the demarcation. All i need to do just just plug in my CSU/DSU to the routers serial port, configure the router and it works? If you could, tell me where i can find more information about this. Its really hard when youre 19 and trying to figure things like this out when you have no real world experience.

-thanks, Andrew

If it is a t1, or fractional t1, then no, there would not be any other equipment. They would hand it to you off a dmarc, and you plug in to your csu and are good to go.

In terms of multiple t1's, there COULD be devices in between. Some carriers will put in something called a DL3800, which is a T1 mux. They can hand you a hssi or v.35 interface off from that, but again, they would support that, so nothing that you would have to support in between them.

Some carriers will also let you plug multiple t1's in to multiple csu's in your router, and do multilink ppp. They have to support that, however.

In regards to a DS3, they would hand you the DS3 directly, with no other equipment in between.
