Hello,

I am new to setting up frame relay so I will need a little help :)

I will be setting up a new Frame connection to five new offices. I am considering using the Hub and Spoke with subinterfaces model. For my main office I was given one DLCI number. I was also given one number for my remote offices. When I look at the configurations on Cisco's web site I see that the home office has multiple DLCI numbers assigned. Should I have more that one DLCI for my home office?

Also, I have the frame setup with one remote site. The only way to get this connection working is for me to put in an ip address in the S0 area. Now in the configs I looked at they have the "no ip address" command in there. I tried that but it wouldn't work.

Attached are the configs for both the home and remote site:

Home site:
interface Serial0
ip address 192.168.1.82 255.255.255.252
encapsulation frame-relay
!
interface Serial0.1 point-to-point
description connected to Scottsdale
ip address 192.168.1.82 255.255.255.252
frame-relay interface-dlci 555

Remote:
interface Serial0
ip address 192.168.1.81 255.255.255.252
encapsulation frame-relay
frame-relay interface-dlci 560
frame-relay lmi-type cisco

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jim

You are just going to have to run a multipoint subinterface or use the physical interface at the central site. Without using subinterfaces on the central site and assigning the DLCI number provided with the frame-relay interface-dlci command will allow inARP to determine what addresses are located off of this DLCI. You will have to put all of the remote sites and the central site on the same subnet. The remote sites are going to have to have a single frame-relay map command for each remote site IP address that points to the same DLCI.

You could also opt to run OSPF and use the ip ospf network point-to-multipoint command.

If you would like a sample config for the network just drop me an email. Erik Rudnick, CCIE No. 9545

in my opinion, the ip adderss assigned to the home site's physical interface is not valid.

cuz subinterface is also made at that s 0 interface which is totally wrong. ip add should be removed from physical interface before creating and subinterface.
