Hi all, yep that's what I need to do. I have a ptp frame at 1024kb, CIR 1.5 and need to know how to measure my bandwidth utilization in order to justify additional bandwidth. I have MRTG but wanted to know what all you smart people think I could use in addition to get a more complete picture. Thanks in advance........Jeff

We have a device that does passive real time monitoring. Its from a company called EMCOM and the device is called NET QC. At one end of the circuit we install a Y cable that splits the circuit in two directions. One end goes to the CSU and in turn to the router and the other end goes into the NET QC passive monitoring device.

This product will give you all sorts of statisitics measururing usage, protocol, top users, graphing trends, etc.

Only problem is that this device is not meant for the poor, its quite expensive. But there should be all sorts of SNMP based monitoring products out there for free. None of them are real time though.

MRTG should do just fine for u.... u basically want to see your utilisation, as reported by the traffic crossing your router's serial interface...

good luck..
