I changed my PC from 2.4GHz 512MB, 80MB HDD, XP Pro 10/100NIC, to a 3.2GHz machine with 1GB Ram, 160GB HDD, XP Pro and 100/1000NIC.

FPD crawls by comparison to previous(factor of 10). My laptop is still as fast as the old PC so that there is no other change exxternal to the pc that I have overlooked.

All machines have every Microsoft XP Pro update.

Have I stepped over some magic boundary?

Maybe 1GB memory. Do you have MEMLIMIT line in your CONFIG.FP ?
Is FP slow all the time or in some specific operation (such as disk access, ...) ?

Tomas

I have tried various permutations of MEMLIMIT without any noticeable difference.

MEMLIMIT 60,2048
MEMLIMIT 60,2048,16384
MEMLIMIT 60,2048,32768
no MEMLIMIT at all

Problem seems to be on all operations, but very noticable on a Novell network, when updating a large network table from another.

can you try this on both machines ?

b=0
s=seconds()
for x=1 to 10000000
b=b+x
endfor
? 'time',seconds()-s

What is the result ? On my machine is 3.8 sec.

Reults:
3.2GHz machine with 1GB Ram, 160GB HDD, XP Pro and 100/1000NIC. time =3.08 secs

Laptop 512MB time =2.59 secs

There was little variation on either computer when run several times.

I am suspecting network transfer rates
