we have 3 EMC frames connected to Unix server.
Unix_Ecc_Host connected ti frame 1, frame 2 and frame 3.

We also have 2 other EMC frmae connected on NT ECC host.

NT_Ecc_Host Connected to Frane 4 and Frame 5.

I collected
fpath backupdb and fpaht lshosts on NT_Ecc_host for frame 4 and fram 5.
I ftp all four (Bellow) files to Unix_Ecc_Host.

Backupdb_frame4
Lshosts_frame4
Backupdb_frame5
Lshosts_frame5

I also have Similer files on Unix_Ecc_Host for first 3 frames.

While I run following command on Unix_Ecc_Host It is failing. Can you pls explain why that is the case ?

fpath lshbavols -o Backupdb_frame4 -w xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The wwn# I am useing is the HBA wwn for the host connected to Frame4.

At the same time I am successfull running following.

fpath lshbavols -o Backupdb_frame1 -w xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The wwn# here is the HBA wwn for the host connected to frame1.

Thanks,
Vimal.

Are you sure about the WWN of the failing command? may be you are pointing out to the wrong WWN or mispelled it.

Cheers.

I tried again and still do not work.
Very interesting....

Thanks.,

Hi,
I see you mention that you have three EMC frames at this site.
1. What is the exact error message this is coming back with?
2. Are you directly attached to the Frame where Backupdb_frame4 lives?
3. Any particular reason you are using fpath instead of the symmask commands?
Colin.

in addition to culainn, what version are you running? (EMC Software I mean)

Hello culainn
The error message is as bellow.

1.

ECCHOST# fpath help

2.
I collect lsdb through NT ECCHOST.

3.
I am not there yet. (Still learning about SAN).
Just learned fpath command. My backgroud is Unix SA. Trying to change the field.

How do I find the what version of EMC I am running is it 3.0.12 (from fpath command ? )

Thanks for you help.

It worked now. When I ftp (From NT to unix) I should use bin option for the lsdb file.
Since I was transfering lshosts file also I did not set that.

FYI...I was trying something
I wrote a ksh script to
1. Collect lsdb and lshosts file from all of our ecchosts.
2. Useing lshosts file find the wwn for the SAN client.
3. Produce a report indicating the HBA and WWN SAN frame and so on....

It took quite bit of time but it was really great experienc.

Thank you very much for your help.
Vptl.
