Users want spell checking on a memo field that is on a page frame.

They edit this field. I found foxspell checker while searching. The
tech notes here were for older version. Does it works with VFP 9 when there is a form with a pageframe with an object=editbox with controlsource=memo field that needs to be spell checked?

I use the right-click event to give them cut, paste, copy, ...
I don't want to use word, because of overhead. I know how to call word. I now call CR 9 for report writing.

Thanks.

There's no reason that Foxspell shouldn't work with VFP9. However, the documentation specifically says that you can't invoke it from a right-click menu if the edit box is embedded in a page frame.

For more information on that point, you might want to look at this article, by Alan Fleet: Putting Foxspell Checker to work.

Alan also points out that Foxspell only works with native edit boxes and textboxes, not subclasses. However, I note the article is dated January 2006. Things might have changed since then.

Mike, I read the documentation earlier on a google. The documentation was 5 years ago and I was hoping that someone was using the product now with my conditions. That it had evoled into something I could use.

Could anyone recomment a product that would work under my conditions?

There has to be one since there is a need. Need always drives development. Agreed?

Thanks

I use a spellchecker in my apps, from either a button or a right mouse click in any text based field (edit box or textbox) and it is very good, bar the american dictionary... actually it is called foxspell!

Mine is version 3 from 1998, from David Elliot Lewis, Ph.D.

It works fine with VFP9 in pageframes

I will ask for the trial version. Good suggestions.

Thank you

Olaf,
I read the article. I am not skilled enough to handle problems. I will have to have a canned package that will install with foxpro and install shield package.

I will read it again.

Thank you. Please give me more suggestions. My users are wanting this.

Hi,

There is also an article in this forum FAQ faq184-5626 about how to invoke spell checker.
----
Why not making use of Word, if installed, Word's spell checker is very good and fast.

Griff,

I am going to ask for a trial version and see if that is possible to obtain.

Thanks.

Taterday,

I think you're going to have to try if for yourself. If you get the answer, let us know.

Jockey2,

You suggested using Word. That's what most of us here would probably do, but there are also good reasons not to. The article I cited discusses some of them, and Taterday already said he had decided against it.

I don't use a controlsource on mine, I treat them as variables, and assign them the value I have in the database.

Then I replace the database field with the contents of the editbox/textbox
